For the last 10 weeks, 80 iconic sculptures of the Oscar-award-winning animation character Gromit (of ‘Wallace and Gromit’ fame) have adorned the streets of Bristol in a public art trail. These sculptures, created by numerous artist, celebrities and public figures, including Sir Peter Blake, are going on auction for charity today!

The Godfather of British Pop Art, Peter Blake, reinvented his Gromit as a Rock ‘n’ Roll ‘Hound Dog’, celebrating his artistic commitment to popular culture. Elvis has long been a favourite subject of Blake’s and his sculpture is a playful, Pop Art, visual pun on Elvis’ famous lyric “Nothing but a Hound Dog”. His artwork joins Gromit designs by Sir Quentin Blake, Disney Pixar, Cath Kidston MBE, Joanna Lumley, Inkie and many other prominent artists.

The Gromit Unleashed auction will be hosted by Sotheby’s auctioneer and TV antiques presenter Tim Wonnacott, who has described it as “the premier charity auction of the year.” All of the funds raised will benefit Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, to support sick children and their families at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
