We are delighted to say that two of our best-selling artists Sir Peter Blake and Banksy were ranked at number 8 and 9 respectively in a recent survey of the Top 10 British Artists published in the Independent newspaper.
The poll asked 1000 British artists themselves (including Charming Baker) who is the most influential artist is of all time. The results proved unexpected mostly for the absence of some of the most famous names in the art-world. David Hockney was voted the number 1 followed by: J.M.W. Turner (2) Grayson Perry (3) Francis Bacon (4) Jack Vettriano (5) Lucian Freud (6) Thomas Gainsborough (7) Sir Peter Blake (8) Banksy (9) and Stanley Spencer (10). It is interesting that the artist themselves selected 10 artists that are not necessarily the most successful in terms of PR. Surprisingly, artist such as Damien Hirst and Tracy Emin do not feature in the list.
Do you agree with the list or do you think there are other more influential artists who have been missed out? Give your feedback on our facebook poll
